Lady Dae’s Memorial

Lady Dae “Dae Dae” woke every morning with a smile on her face and a to-do list.  She thought I was her assistant, hired to assist her in accomplishing her busy schedule. Chase lizards, play fetch, tug of war, go on at least 2 long excursions, either on foot or in the car, meet at least one new friend on a walk, socialize with a few old friends, etc.

She was never much for cuddles. She showed her affection by kissing and bringing me toys. If I was sitting on the sofa, she’d insist on me playing with her before she’d finally settle down next to me with a chew toy.

If I tried to pat her while she was next to me, she’d insist on another round of play. I used to joke that her motto was, “I’ll cuddle when I’m dead.”  Thinking about that joke initially made me sad after she passed but now it makes me laugh.

Dae Dae

She passed away at 14 1/2. At 13 1/2 she was still going strong-curious, playful, active. In hindsight, I realized she had slowed down a little in the prior years but it wasn’t much!

She survived cancer a few years ago and was diagnosed with kidney disease at 12. She was kicking the kidney disease’s butt! Unfortunately, the heart issue came on quickly.

She was diagnosed at 11:00 am with congestive heart failure. I had to rush her to the vet that night at 2:30. She was gone by 3:00 am.

She was the best companion.  Never allowed me to get too much in my head. She kept me in the moment.

Stay busy, until we meet again, buggy.

Love,

Michelle

Dae Dae was born on December 7th, 2006, and passed away due to heart failure on May 7th, 2021.
